The meaning of life (humanity), as I interprit it...
To feel, to look, to see, to struggle, to triumph, to fail, to hurt, to laugh, to love, to fear, to question, to seek, to know, to bend, to break, to rebuild, to forgive, to share, to BE
And to never forsake the ultimate value of life itself. Each heart beats a precious few times over the span of eternity... don't waste it.
The meaning of life differs for each person. I really don't have a "meaning of life" as I never chose to be born. I don't think about it really. I know what I want to accomplish in my life but I don't expect it to change the world. Only the greats change the world, and I'm just a dude. I'm no John Lennon, I'm not Martin Luther King, but I really would just like to see all people become more tolerant of others who share different religious/political views. People are too serious and I am too relaxed. I'm no hippy, I don't like Grateful Dead and I love to shower...but I do like the whole give peace a chance thing....that would be the closest ramble for the meaning of life, for me anyway.
Maybe we can put it this way: If you were God, would you create life? Why?
This is the only answer I've read that ever made any sense to me: Nothing can be understood in isolation. God, being All That Is, One, Pure Love, or however you want to phrase it, wasn't able to understand Itself. So God fragmented into many pieces, some of which are human beings, in order to experience everything that can be experienced. Suffering exists because love, joy, peace, etc. can't be understood without experiencing their opposites. Eventually God will know all that It needs to know, the pieces will reunite, and God will be One again. This corresponds to the ideas of heaven, nirvana, and so on.
Mind you, I'm not saying that I believe this, devoid of supporting evidence, but it has a certain metaphoric elegance. If I were God (as if I know what that might be like), it's the only reason I could think of off-hand to create life.
Personally, I agree with most of the others on here that we create our own meaning.

What's the meaning of gravity? What's the meaning of radioactivity? What's the meaning of centrifugal force? What's the meaning of the speed of light? What's the meaning of fire? What's the meaning of electromagnetism?
They are all simply events that occur in the universe according to physical and mathematical laws. Anything that can occur without violating laws of physics, will occur if appropriate conditions are present.
1. Enforce a new law...that all people that believe in Glen Beck shall, from this day onward, be known as Becklings.
2. Have all state borders excavated and filled with water so that all states are separated by a rivers about 1/2 mile wide. Travel from one state to another can only be legal on bridges...with tolls, of course.
