You weren't around 100 years ago to see what life was like for kids then. Alcoholism, domestic abuse and incest were the norm, with almost no controls in place to discourage them. Child labor was virtually unregulated. with no safety standards. Childhood diseases killed one in every family, aided by malnutrition, filth and poverty. Fathers who died left children and widows in the streets. Few children finished high school. There was no public welfare at all. But there was no porn, and morality was Victorian. No drugs and no rock concerts. Still, children grew up in nightmare circumstances compared to those you minister to today.
Greetings,
NO I wasn't around 100 yrs ago and neither was you. There is nothing we can do to change the past. Living in it and comparing with what is going on with this porn is not helping our children or adults today. But We can help our children of today. I believe you should be out there fighting to give these children of today to get a decent education. They have a right to the adults to set examples for them.

Even God can't fight the devil, and you want me to?

What other reason is there for the existence of the library, except to provide free access to information for people who do not or cannot pay for it. Please tell me, exactly what the library is for, if not for that.

You know when I get on Public Transportation, I can't make the driver take me to the strip joint. I have to go where the bus goes. If I want to go some where the city bus doesn't go , tough , I have to buy a car. What makes people think the public library should take them were they want to go instead of going where the library goes?

You will defend what I pay for from me? I don't think that's a reasonable position. Frankly, it's more entitlement hooey and down right goofy. Answer this; can you rent porn vids, CD's, or porn novels at the public library? No. And I'm sure you do nothing to demand those services and never will.

What is more likely to happen is that public libraries will charge a fee for its use to non-members. There will not be a rallying among the taxpayers to provide you (general you, who do not pay property taxes, etc) with access to porn. If anything, there will be a backlash against such activities.

Yes, that's conclusion B. as I see it, and it's ridiculous.

Geese Louise. Again, it's not free. How many times must this be stated? Where do you get the idea that it's free? What you're saying is that you (general you) want me (general tax payer) to pay for your access to porn. Why do you think we should have to pay for those activities?

The word "free" in this context means the users do not have to pay an each-time user fee. That definition has been around for quite a while. Get used to it, it probably will not go away.

Why doesn't anybody understand the difference between:
A) Going out and intentionally getting material that is known to be objectionable, and displaying it on the shelves for everyone to see, and
B) Subscribing to a general and useful service, which, among other things, includes material that some people personally would not choose for thenselves or their family.

Do you make all decisions in your life ignorant of that distinction?

Do you think the payphone ought be removed from the library entryway (in fact, ALL public buildings), because some creep "might" make an objectionable remark while using it, as children are passing by?

I wonder if the Founding Fathers ever thought that the First Amendment would one day be used to justify sexual perversion, child pornography and some of the other vices that a degenerate society places so much value on?

Why don't you define exactly what constitutes sexual perversion, and let's see what it is that you are talking about. It has already been ruled that the constitution does not justify child pornography, and allows for severe criminal sanctions against it.

As a "gunluvver", I'm going to guess that you do not hold the Second Amendment to the same standard.
