The problem is when private industry was making out no one felt for the governamnt underpaid emplyees. Its a contract and should be honored.I think the courts will uphold the current contracts and only allow changes to new employees hired. That is what has happened in other such cases. Many in your age groups are doing very well and making beyond what thier parents made. But they also prepared to make better than their parents did for the changing world.
Good points!
I am sure they will just means test all entitlements and they will be how they get around contracts.
Reality check time though TK: People DO RETIRE. They look forward to relaxing. Or, as I like to put it - to "go fishing". To do what they want to do when they want to do it.
They worked hard long enough -
Honestly, I cannot figure out why you are so opposed to people retiring. Or, taking vacations for that matter.
I plan on leaving this gig when the mortgage is paid off. Considering I had to work for my step father for room and board starting a seven or eight years old, I have been working for over 55 years and I am tired and want to start doing things for myself for a change.
PS: Just for my peace of mind I do not look at the gross pay nunber. I only look at the net pay because that is what I can spend or save and the rest is simply not there. I am not about to worry about what is not there.
I don't think there should be a "retirement age" at all. If you want to work--and here's the important point--and you're able to work, then you should be allowed to do so for as long as you desire. There's absolutely no reason to think that someone who's 75 isn't going to do a better job than a 20-year-old.
Actually there is not. We hardly have enough new workers in the pipeline to take over for the old ones. Our labor force growth rate is almost zero.
Then they'd have to start increasing the pay.
