We tried that in 1621 and it failed and killed off half the population.
As Governor of the colony William Bradford wrote. "all profits & benefits that are got by trade, working, fishing, or any other means" were to be placed in the common stock of the colony, and that, "all such persons as are of this colony, are to have their meat, drink, apparel, and all provisions out of the common stock." A person was to put into the common stock all he could, and take out only what he needed.
Bradford writes that "young men that are most able and fit for labor and service" complained about being forced to "spend their time and strength to work for other men's wives and children." Also, "the strong, or man of parts, had no more in division of victuals and clothes, than he that was weak." So the young and strong refused to work and the total amount of food produced was never adequate. The Great Thanksgiving Hoax - Richard J. Maybury - Mises Institute
You know what they say about those who refuse to learn from history don't you?
Psss it is 2010 not 1621. Our civilization has advanced to have much more resources and ability to help others.
You're saying that the deliveries of 100% of babies born in Vermont, Mass., and Oregon are paid for by Medicaid?
Wow, you're WAY off.
NO I did not say that all of the births in these states are paid for by Medicaid. I said these states have universal health care for children. I did not say it was paid for by Medicaid. Learn to read.

Which is not relevant to the point that was being made. I agree that comparisons to the distant past can be dicey, but the point is when some people are working a lot harder to support others who aren't working nearly as hard or at all, resentment sets in and it just generally doesn't work as it encourages laziness and there's little incentive for the harder workers. An oversimplification maybe, but an overall valid point. That's but one reason why communism (real communism, not the twisted dictatorships that called themselves communism in the 20th century) failed and it's been largely abandoned.

but this is assuming those who are paid more automatically work harder which is not always true. there are many jobs where the work is excruciatingly hard and people are paid little while someone shuffles papers at a desk and even inefficiently and get paid more. sometimes the less paying jobs are even more crucial to a society's needs as well.
the system is not perfect from any angle, whether it's the top, middle or bottom, this is why i say that people should not be so judgemental. people need to realize they don't know everything unless they've walked in everyone's shoes.
Most American's are ready to hit somebody for all the crap they see and feel that equate with the injustice they experience on a daily basis. That said, they seldom can lash out at the upper class, it's easier to look at some other poor slob and demonize him for the fact of their own wealth slowly slipping away. TV and other media create the popular opinions that are embraced and parroted as though they were the proles original observations.
From this pool of information the prole is indoctrinated to the views that agree with the upper class version of America. Very few TV productions are calling for the truth in matters economic, it's who's "cheating" the "system"? Never the other way around. The "system" is the alliance of corporate and state, all powerful it sends the messages that form "public opinion" people just don't get stupid from reading and studying, but too much TV and presto, no more thinking needed.
In his book titled, "Working", Studs Terkel talks with "Mike the steelworker" who says, "you can't hit the boss, you can't hit the Mayor or the President, so you hit the guy next to you", this is the "reasoning" seen in the diatribes against the poor. We just witnessed the largest transference of wealth from the public's pocket to Wall Street and people are still caught up in their petty attacks on those on the bottom.......
Funny thing is you can "hit" the boss, the Mayor and the President if you start voting your own self interest instead of against your fellow worker. We need to reunionize all the work places until we have one big union and have the power to demand fairness from the wealthy. Solidarnosh!

Ugg ya lets go back 100 years. We need an even playing field for all, then we won't need to use majority force to find ways of taking from one group and giving to another.
