I have an English assignment coming up; it's a ten-page research paper and I have no idea what to write. Specifically, it has to be a "documented argument", meaning that I argue for or against a topic... duh.
I've read through some of the topics in these forums, and while many are quite interesting, I'm still drawing blanks as to what I could write about.
This just seemed to be the best palce for me to ask for help.
Yes, but many of them are arbitrarily "off-limits" because the professor has seen them. these topics include legalization of marijauana, gun "control", health care, etc. etc.
I have very broad interests and as such it would be difficult for me to put them all down here for review.
The other problem I am having is that it needs to be interesting enough to write a ten-page paper about- some of the topics in here are great but I am either A) disinterested or B) the circular arguments being made, both of which would cripple me before I even got started.
If I were you I would cover the current health care debate. That would give opportunity/justification to actually read the 1990+ page proposal put out by the dems.

Hmm I used to take a topic and then argue the exact opposite of my view. It is actually a good way to learn and sometimes you learn your views may be off.
How about something unique like replacing income and consumption taxes with land and natural resources taxes? You could even add in the idea of a citizens dividend paid by these taxes.
There are TONS of research sites I could send you to if you like that topic.
It'd be interesting to do that, but I fear my general dislike of taxes would probably not help there
I'm not asking for help because I'm lazy, I'm asking for help because I really don't know what to write about that won't result in a circular argument or an opinion that I can't back with evidence.

I am as anti-tax as you can get, that is why I like land tax. It is the only true fair tax. Just because someone got their first does not mean they should have the government protect their land free of charge.
Foreign aid
Cultural phenomena "causing" violent behavior (video games, movies, etc)
Amnesty for illegal aliens
Wal*Mart
Good luck with your paper. BTW, your post is technically off-topic for this forum - the Education forum probably would have been a better place for it.
There's lots of reasearch info on both sides of whether genetically modified foods are safe.
