What does "open-minded" mean....really?

Are people going to end up open-minded toward FASCISM? Toward COMMUNISM?....Will there be open-mindedness toward SLAVERY?

Nope....(well...we sure as hell hope not...)

O.K....So....open-minded....with filters....

It is usually people who are pushing some authoritarian agenda who call others closed minded.

I guess you think all liberals are open minded.....Clue................................... .They're NOT.....

I try to see both sides of an issue, although I won't necessarily argue either side. You might have noticed, that I often don't respond to the issue itself, but to a following post in which the argument is completely unsupportable. Not that such posts need it, but there are people who will believe just about anything, so I need to guard against flatulent posts going unchallenged and soaking up naive adherents to foolishness.

Because those things worth evaluating don't come along very often, right?

You know, maybe it's good that people didn't think like you do when slavery existed. They'd think: "yep, we got salvery. It's alright for us. Let's close our minds at that".
These are the exact dangers of the closed mind that i'm talking about.
The open minds shattered the biggest communistic regime in the world, even though within the USSR borders it was considered that communism is the only holy religion and the majority REALLY thought that this is as good as life can get and actually were VERY happy. Open minds showed how that happinness was based on lies and that it wouldn't last long.
The open minds kept doing researches, even at the times when it was considered that the world is flat. It's only because somebody came up with a "maybe", that we know that the world is as it is now.
I say that probably the phrase that made the most progress in the world is: "Maybe I'm wrong".

.
If you were in a debate and were assigned to the side that needed to defend fascism or communism or slavery, you mean you would be unable to think of anything? How disappointing.

Yay! So THIS is how it's done.
So (please, make it clear for me one last time, sensei):
I asked you: IF (did i stress that enough?) situations worth changing your opinions for (changing opinions includes: having opinions, finding out about new opinions, evaluating those new opinions and, finally, accepting those new opinions) did actually come along a dozen times a day, would you change your opinions? (as an alternative you can see the new opinions as worthy, but you don't accept them, cuz tough guys don't change their opinons!).
Your answer is: such situation is purely theoretical, and there's no way it is ever going to happen in real life, therefore, there is absolutely no point in answering your ignorant question.
Is that correct?
Am I thinking along those lines well?
Are you proud of me?

Being open minded is simply a willingness to hear out other people's opinions before you completely shut them down.
