They only get about 7-10 mpg, but RVs can be environmentally friendly... when parked. "What I use in electricity and water in one month is about the same as the average American household uses in one day."
It was just me and a old tomcat, but we lived in a 9 feet long travel camper for almost two years when I was first a "Roughneck" in the Oil Patch. We moved all over three states and had a blast. We mostly parked at the rig sites and had free electricity and propane.
My former in laws (retirees) have been living in a motor home for years. They had a home too but finally sold it because they were never there. They love traveling around in accordance to the seasons. Sometimes they pick up jobs at national parks, etc. They have a blast and have made so many friends.
This is my dream. More specifically, a Tumbleweed-style house built on a utility trailer (google Tumbleweed Tiny House Company) that doesn't quite have the "trailer" aurora. I've been designing floor plans since I was a little kid and now that I'm a "grown up" and in college, I'm a bit surprised that this dream of mine never went away.
Seems the older i get the less i need or want. I think me and the wife could live quite happily in a set up like this once the kids have moved out and we are both retired..
I'd stand a better chance of living in my 30 year old Class C van if I could find an owner's manual!
