Due to the overwhelming propensity for devolving into personal attacks, off-topic rants, bashing and other disruptive behavior, the following topics are restricted and tightly moderated:
  • Global Warming & Climate Change
  • Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) & Engineered Foods
  • Corporate Business Practices (particularly agricultural)
  • Politicians and Political Parties
Only respectful discussions related to a specific aspect of these topics, as they relate to Green Living, will be allowed on this forum. Posts that deviate from the aspect under discussion will be deleted as off-topic,the thread may be moved or closed, and infractions issued as appropriate.

Debates on the validity of theories or research as a whole (i.e sweeping generalizations or broad statements) will NOT be tolerated. Such posts will be deleted and/or the thread closed, and infractions issued as appropriate.

Discussions and debates regarding a specific study, questioning the credibility of a specific theory or source, or questioning a specific business practice continue to be welcome and encouraged as long as they remain civil, on topic, and quoted/paraphrased sources are properly cited.

This is not the appropriate forum for political opinion or political debates. Courteous discussions regarding general government interventions as they pertain to Green Living issues are welcome, vilifying a specific politician or political party/affiliation will not be tolerated.

Respectful posts from various perspectives remain fully endorsed; however bashing and bullying of any sort will NOT be tolerated. Such posts will be deleted and/or the thread closed, and infractions issued as appropriate.

Repeated violations will be considered trolling, and may result in temporary or permanent loss of posting privileges.

Quotations and Citations: Whenever you quote, paraphrase, summarize, or otherwise refer to the work of another, you are required to cite its source, either by way of parenthetical citation or by means of a footnote. Per the City-Data Terms of Service, copyrighted materials should include a link to the source, a short snippet of the article enclosed in QUOTE tags, and proper citation. If the source is not online, copyrighted materials must be enclosed in quotation marks or enclosed in QUOTE tags and properly cited.

Examples of proper citation and formatting of quotations are provided in Purdue University's Online Writing Lab.

Anything written by someone else is automatically copyrighted to that person in the US. To reference their material, even on an online discussion board, without proper citation violates US Copyright Law and is plagiarism. Such posts will be deleted and infractions issued as appropriate.

Just to clarify the forum ethos:

The purpose of this forum is to support people in living more sustainable lives, regardless of what level they start from. The forum encompasses all shades of green, and all are welcome. Everyone can make a difference, regardless of whether they are starting from a relatively ungreen position, or are a much darker hue. Therefore it is paramount that everyone is encouraged to do what they can, and all positive steps are recognised.

The range of people the forum attracts is one of its great strengths. We therefore ask that when encountering members whose views and approaches are very different to your own, you show tolerance and respect, even when disagreeing with their opinions. It would be a sad world if we were all the same, and we should celebrate our variety!

Living green means you:

Reduce your consumption of things that require natural resources or pollute the planet; Waste less;
Connect with other like-minded individuals who want to live greener lives or support green causes.
Rethink cultural norms and traditions;
Find cleaner solutions to everyday needs and wants.

False, misleading or untrue claims about the positive impact that a company, product or service has on the environment will not be allowed. Bashing and denying the importance of conserving and preserving the Earth's natural resources and habitats are not allowed on this forum.
