If I were her I'd use the defense that the backyard doesn't have suitable growing conditions for the veg garden for one reason or another and offer to put in some shrubs or a hedge in front along the sidewalk to provide more curb appeal.
I do understand the concerns the city has. At least I think I do. While the veggie garden looks really well maintained there really isnt any green aside from that in the yard. If she'd put in some foundation plants and some flowers I think it would be a much different story. At the moment the focal point is those planters and we all know how lovely that must look in the winter time. Someone probably complained about that because it must look a little "blah" at those times of the year. Some bushes in front will screen the view without shading out the garden and look pretty.

I say she was warned before once ( first offence ) not to plant the garden,
and later she did not obey and planted it again ( second offence ) and was fined,
and then she said within her own mind, I don't care and she planted again,
which is her ( Third offence )
She should have tried to have the law changed before
she went any further but she didn't do it.
She made the decision to break the law 3 different times,
and if I were on the jury with those facts,
I would say guilty, and she needs to go to jail, and pay another fine.
I do not feel sorry for here either, she is no different from anyone else.
She need to Obey the law or pay the consequences ! ! !

Do you have any links? The report claims "suitable" veg. The city spoke person is full of beans.
One more example of people not having property rights.
I cannot believe a human being would actually think someone should go to jail for planting vegetables.
Around here, there's people that have gardens in both front and back, and nobody gives a darn - glad I don't live in a town that tells you what you can and cannot grow.
Hopefully this lady will bring so much negative media attention to that town that they have to change the laws.
This is the stupidest "law" I've ever seen. What in the name of all that's holy is going on down there? I'd like to see somebody tell me I can't grow vegetables in my yard!

They are codes and regs, not laws. And the city spoke person seems to be interpreting them pretty loosely. Be careful what you wish for buddy.
