They are taking advantage of the subsidies to provide power to their operations. Let me ask you this, if the article was about Exxon taking government subsidies to build a wind plant to power their refinery operations what are your thoughts on that?

I'm all for private industries investing their own money in green energy. We should admit, however, that Google is making out like a bandit on this one. They're thrilled by what this does for their image, but what the public doesn't know is that they're getting federal subsidy payments for these.
But again, developing green energy alternatives is a good thing!

I'd say Exxon is doing what any other American company would do, accept the free government money.

I don't follow your logic...
My point is that Google investing in green energy is not everything it's made out to be. Google gets to brag to its "eco nerd" fan-base, saying "Look how much we're investing in green energy!!!" But the truth is that they're receiving HUGE government subsidies. Google isn't talking about the hundreds of millions of dollars of tax-payer subsidies they're receiving, as a result of investing in green energy.
It's like Warren Buffett talking about rich people being happy to pay high income taxes, knowing the whole time that he has his income structured in such a way that those higher taxes would not effect him.

Google uses their subsidies for what they were meant for, most other subsidies go in peoples pockets so lets badmouth Google for investing in alternative energies.....
