Has anyone here seen this film, "Chasing Ice"? If so, what did you think of it? Beautiful cinematography, and impressive research. It proves that global warming caused by human activity, not a natural cycle of climate change, is causing vastly accelerated glacial melting.

So some cinematographer has been able to prove something that all the worlds climate scientists haven't? One of the fundamental rules of science is that "correlation does not imply causation".

Let's get something straight here, the only consensus amongst scientists is that the temperature has risen. What is strongly debated is how much and what the cause is. Glaciers have been growing in some parts of the world and they aren't static, they have been growing and receding before recorded time.

Ooohkayyyy.... So you haven't seen the film. It's worth seeing. The filming of the glaciers and research were done by a geologist who was skeptical about climate change theories, and the project was backed by National Geographic.

I'm well aware that many of the glaciers have been receding - some have photo documentation of receding since the 1850s, prior to the types of increase in CO2 that are being blamed as a cause. The area where I grew up was once under about 2,000+' of glaciers. It gives pause when you see deep scratch marks in rocks at the TOP of mountains, along with boulders up there that have been moved dozens of miles.

^^^ Right. The astonishing thing that was captured on film was that the receding has accelerated tremendously. The project was done over several years, and current rates of glacial melt were compared to old photographs of glacier boundaries over decades. Industrial pollutants pock-marking the glaciers and their effects on the ice were analyzed. Very educational.

Let's get something clear, lying about the scientific consensus on climate change won't be tolerated.

The scientific evidence is clear: global climate change caused by human activities is occurring now, and it is a growing threat to society....The pace of change and the evidence of harm have increased markedly over the last five years. The time to control greenhouse gas emissions is now. AAAS

There is unequivocal evidence that Earth’s lower atmosphere, ocean, and land surface are warming; sea level is rising; and snow cover, mountain glaciers, and Arctic sea ice are shrinking. The dominant cause of the warming since the 1950s is human activities. This scientific finding is based on a large and persuasive body of research. The observed warming will be irreversible for many years into the future, and even larger temperature increases will occur as greenhouse gases continue to accumulate in the atmosphere. Avoiding this future warming will require a large and rapid reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions. The ongoing warming will increase risks and stresses to human societies, economies, ecosystems, and wildlife through the 21st century and beyond, making it imperative that society respond to a changing climate. Like I've asked you before when you post mythical crap from who knows where, could you post the websites you get your information from or is this just more of the same BS and propaganda from the environmental movement?

The "scientific evidence" is clear that the Earth has gone through numerous warming and cooling periods long before mankind set foot on the Earth.

There is no "concrete scientific evidence" that mankind is the sole cause of this particular warming cycle...

And why should we believe this former skeptic of global warming who has made an about face anymore than we should believe Dr. Patrick Moore, a trained ecologist (and co-founder of Greenpeace) doing an about face who now says global warming is nothing more than a huge scam?

Anyone else remember that factual, beautifully photographed documentary by scientists called "An Inconvenient Truth"????

Because he was like you. Then when he got down and dirty with the crud accumulating on the glaciers, he learned a lot.

This is the strangest "Green Living" forum! Full of naysayers. If you're not interested in these topics, you don't need to endure them. Let others enjoy.

It's from the AMS or American Meteorological Society.

So in you versus the AAAS we should believe you about science?
