Back in the late 90's, when I got out of town, US Car Rental was renting these sporty, zippy Geo Metro Coupe's, with the 5 speeds, getting 40+MPG, way back then, and it was the most fun car I ever rented. I rented one 5X!

When I look at the MPG some of these newer smaller cars are getting, even the Smart car, I'm astounded that we never increased the MPG since the Geo Metro. By now, we should be up to 50-60MPG!

There a saying: there's something wrong in Denmark!

I'm still holding on to my 29YO Toyota and I'm not buying a new car until the MPG is well past 50MPG!

This may be the car, the Elio!

I think most of the car makers are intent on upping the MPG for their more profitable cars and trucks as opposed to doing much with squirt cars.

My impression is that the auto industry refrains from damaging the profits of the fuel industry.

The price interests me even more than the MPG. I'm wondering if they can really do it for that price.

That's not even a consideration. Gas companies will just do what my local electric company does: When people use less, they raise the rates to keep their profits the same. Then they are happy because they don't have to add infrastructure.

Well, on the surface, that could be inferred from prices since 2004. But I think that's deceptive. A lot more factors are involved than just people buying less here in the USA.

I averaged 41 MPG purring along at 65-70 MPH.
This 1.5 is not fuel injected. lol

Have a 99 Civic. Wish I had those mileage figures. I only drive 4000 miles a year. That's my version of lowered gas consumption.

So wait a minute! So I don't have to buy a $45,000 Chevy Volt to save gas?

If I only drove 4,000 miles/year I would need to walk and bike more, so I won't need to pay to go to the gym.

Probably would not have payments and high insurance or registration fees on a 14 year old car.

More money, better shape and lots of fresh air and sunshine, Work for me!
