Doesn't this belong in the Science and Technology forum?

It could but it is also applicable here. Traditional means of providing Internet access requires a lot of energy and resources, this technology uses solar power in a new and "green" way to provide that access.

The so called "green" initiatives and lifestyles generally involve many new technologies.

EV cars have been discussed here at length, should it have been relegated to the automotive forum?

This technology has the potential to change how Internet services are provided in reference to it's impact upon the environment through the use of fewer fossil fuels to do so.

Interesting idea. Kind like having a lower altitude satellite that you can bring down occasionally to service. Probably doesn't cost millions just to launch it after spending millions assembling it.

No one has to be part of big data. The "green" movement is more big data than a lot of other things. Put the wrong items in the garbage can and get a note from the waste management company or municipality "advising" you to sort your trash before throwing it away. Toll free numbers to call to report cars that have smokey exhausts. Smart meters that not only aggregate your energy use but also report specifically about your individual use of energy.

In the name of the greater good, big data and big brother have been here for quite a while.

Worried about what? I can walk outside my house right now and film whoever I please in public, it's legal. I think people that FEAR anything are the ones that hold society back. I might be more interested in protecting my privacy from agencies like the NSA rather than google, but that's why you don't post a bunch of personal stuff online and protect your data, use cash, etc.

I'm not afraid of big brother, big data, or google. Just making the comment that if you fear big brother then what is coming around the corner will definitely make you run for the hills. FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real.

Wait until google gets drones (and the approval to use them) to do it for them, taking pictures of your neighborhood will be updated a whole lot more than it is now. They could program a drone to follow you, since you hit the radar because you only use cash. I'm sure your cash only policy has tripped someone's computer in the NSA too.

So what is Google going to accomplish by following you with a drone? Google is going to send out hundreds of millions of drones to do exactly what, spy on what you bought at a Chucky Cheese on your kids birthday party because you use only cash?

And then do what with that information?

One of your neighbors probably knows more about what you do than anyone else. If you want to worry about something, worry about that.
