The thing is - obviously they have a bunch of money to do things. A lot of people looking to build a dry, remote, cabin don't have those type of funds. Look a the motorhome they first lived in and brought over to the property.
I have friends who built a passive/active solar straw bale home in CO. They did most of the work themselves and with friends. In the end, they realized that it was more cost-effective to hook up to the electrical grid and pay for grid electricity, then sell their own solar-generated power to the grid, so that's what they're doing. It was built as a model house, and it's open for tours. The female half of the couple is an alternative energy systems engineer; she designed the whole thing.

Good for him. $2,000 I think a tad understated though. Today's prices are higher. I got a kick out of the hurricane straps for the rafters, expecially considering the home sits freely on blocks.

Nevertheless, kudos to him!

I saw that as well. Nothing ties the tiny house down to the foundation, but the tiny house is tied into the tiny roof. I am waiting for a real life wizard of OZ moment.
