The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants hotels to monitor how much time its guests spend in the shower.

The agency is spending $15,000 to create a wireless system that will track how much water a hotel guest uses to get them to “modify their behavior.”

Interesting idea... Although now I can see Hotels saying you can only take a 5 minute shower per person or else you need to pay extra coming up. Why not take advantage of a "free" system to earn a little more coin.

I take 10-15 minute showers (on occasion, usually it really is just 5 minutes) but will often keep the water at half or less the water flow of a normal person.. most showers tend to flow at a higher rate of speed than is really necessary when turned on full blast.

Hotels are all for saving money. I'm sure they are fully on board. All of the hotels I say at encourage you to reuse your bath towel.

Look the news up somewhere other than Fox.

As part of a student competition, the winning student proposal was a feasibility study for designing such a system. Since they were the winning proposal, they got a grant to potentially design the system to see if it works.

I'm happy to reuse my bath towel a couple times, at home or at a hotel. But my showers will never be short. Now, if I were a man, especially a bald man, and I didn't have to shampoo, condition, shave everything from my ankles to my armpits, exfoliate then use a moisturizing wash because of my super-dry skin, and spend time buffing and babying my cracked heels....well then maybe I could finish in under 20 minutes. Jealous that hub, with his flawless skin and bald head, is in and out of the shower in 5.

I'll happily turn the water down to a trickle if the shower head works that way, but most don't, and I'm not gonna freeze by turning the water completely off while I shave, etc.

I've been around people who never showered. Trust me, it did not protect the environment.

Such as always been one of my fantasies, to go to some hotel and see if I can drain their hot water tank.

I recall that California drought where residents checked in to local hotels since their water was rationed.

A sailors shower takes about 3 cups.
