ReTuna Ã…terbruksgalleria in Sweden is a mall dedicated entirely to repaired and recycled goods. It combines a traditional recycling center with a shopping center, so that people can drop off goods that they no longer need, and then browse for something new.
What do you suppose it costs to light, heat and cool that mall for the year?
Hey, it's Sweden, whaddaya expect? It will be a lot less cost and way more efficient energy-wise than anything we'd find in any mall in North America, that's for sure. You can count on it.
I was curious about it so looked it up. That mall is in the city of Eskilstuna and Eskilstuna is a "green" industrial city which has been leading the way internationally as a "green" city for over 100 years. (Eskilstuna builds Volvos too, besides other things). The mall is owned by the municipality, and the municipality also owns the company that is the energy source, Eskilstuna Energy and Environment company, a Swedish energy agency. Eskilstuna Energy and Environment company is HUGE on clean energy, green living, habitat and environmental issues, energy efficiency, etc., etc. and they are very involved in efficient and affordable energy projects internationally.

It´s not just a thrift store, it´s a whole mall.
OK, it is a mall. Big deal. Here in little ol' Billings, MT we have at least three "thrift stores" that accept donations of salable items, and two or more "recycling centers" where paper and cardboard can be dropped off, and scrap metals can be sold or dropped off.
No, they are not all under one roof, nor are they owned by the local, county, state or federal government.
But, they are here, and they do the same things as the "recycling mall" in Sweden!
