No one will vote for performance. It is convenience/logistics and/or price.

EV is not there yet...

Tough to 'push start' an EV when at a remote campsite. (Had to extract a Prius from a campsite for a customer. What a pain.). 300 mile tow to nearest dealer, once we got it to town. (After 10 hrs of dragging and towing and lifting)

I live in the boonies, on top of a MTN so often need extra snow clearance and really hot heater. Running on an empty battery headed home would be death to EV.

Been getting 50 mpg on free fuel (since 1976)

Current car has a 1250 mile range between donut shops (free fuel). That's nice.

I desire no plastic in my car

I expect a million miles from my cars.

Electricity currently is not cheap or earth friendly to produce. When we get more Nuke power at <$.01/ kw I will be more inclined to consider an EV.

Wow, ok, I guess my initial post...didn’t post.

I work as a trucker out of a terminal 104 miles from home. I park for a month at a time. AFAIK, there’s no battery cutoff, and there are no chargers. I roll into my terminal pre-dawn, so headlights are run, and usually some blower motor and often the defogger. So, with parasitic loss, no chargers at work, and no chargers between home or in my city...there’s no real practical way to own an EV for me.

Gotta up the infrastructure, lower the cost, and make charging as fast as fueling. Sorry, but as much as EVs might be the future, they aren’t the now.

And at around 45mpg on gasoline, I’m not super-motivated anyway.

It’s not at all feasible to run an EV.

Nothing, I have a Volt and just bought a Bolt. Both are capable of long distance travel (if I start out with a full charge in the Bolt, it takes one 20 minute charge to top off in NJ to go between our house in MD to my son's in Saratoga Springs, NY, for example), but both are cheap to run, peppy, and fun to drive. The Bolt is, this month, going for $21-25k due to incentives from GM.

The Level 2 charger I have at home was paid for by the local electric company. Other than a couple long distance trips per year, there is NO need to stop to charge outside the home. ALL commuting and errand running can be done with the charge they get from home.

A lot of you have some outdated thinking about EVs.

Plug in hybrid makes the most sense for me. With my Volt I can use pure electric just for running local errands, but when I need to go farther, as I will be tomorrow, I can just let it use gas. Apparently the previous owners never went far from home though, because it has a lifetime MPG of 250+, which is the highest it can report. At 18k miles it has only used 28 gallons since new.

And FWIW, I did not buy my Volt to be "green" (my spouse works in the oil biz). I bought it simply because I think it's neat tech, and the smooth quiet acceleration around town is unbeatable. It's amazing how low I can keep the radio turned down and still be able to hear it clearly.

I have always said that as well, but honestly my worst experience with those was the older NiCad batteries, not Lithium Ion.
