^^^ Excellent post.

Here's as good a summary as any on the shamefully non-scientific reports issued periodically by the UN--
https://thenewamerican.com/top-scien...limate-report/

...and we'll be polite and not mention how far wrong their predictions have proven to be thru the years.

IPCC is composed of most of the best and brightest climate scientists on the planet. When you cant fight the actual science, I guess you have to resort to attacking the scientist. Nice to post a video rather than scientific papers.. Before we take a look at that video (which has been around for a bunch of years in various editions), do you think the fossil fuel industry is just going to sit by and watch their huge $$$ making industry being dismantled? According to this web site https://www.climaterealityproject.or...climate-action Over 1 billion $$$ was spent in the three years following the Paris Agreement on misleading climate-related branding and lobbying. How much would a video like that cost to produce? 100K? That is just .01 percent of what the fossil fuel industry is spending to deceive voters which has worked particularly well with one political party..

Quote:
educate yourself
Good idea..

In these threads, the folks who have been deceived into thinking climate change is a hoax likely never read any of the links posted but you should first check out some of the responses to it.

That video first aired in 2007 and has been re-edited a few time. The first version even said that the CO2 in the atmosphere was from volcanoes which is a complete lie (research that for yourself PLEASE before responding).

Lets just start with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gr...unsch_letter-6

Quote:
Although the documentary was welcomed by climate change deniers, it was criticised by scientific organisations and individual scientists, including one of the scientists interviewed in the film and one whose research was used to support the film's claims.[6][7] The film's critics argued that it had misused and fabricated data, relied on out-of-date research, employed misleading arguments, and misrepresented the position of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.[7][8][9][10]
Dont like Wikipedia LOL.. watch these videos (fairly sure you wont because of your bias blinders.. but the links are below)

https://esquimalt.sd61.bc.ca/wp-cont...a-Critique.pdf
https://esquimalt.sd61.bc.ca/wp-cont...a-Critique.pdf

In a next post, let examine some the BS in that video intended to deceive the gullible.

L00k4ward said this from the video he or she posted

Quote:
Explains, that the actual warming of the Earth is most likely (according to data from hundreds of millions years ago) due to our Sun’s activity
Since we are educating ourselves, I would appreciate if LOOK4ward can explain something.

The most direct and easy method to measure the suns power is by satellite. No atmosphere or clouds to influnce the results, just a direct measurement.

So what sun power are the satellites measuring? From Nasa https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard...r-energy-input

Notice the 11 year sun spot cycles and a slow steady decline in the suns power since just before 1980.

Satellites have been measuring the global temperature since abou the same time.. This image from UAH link here https://www.drroyspencer.com/latest-...-temperatures/

Look4ward, can you please explain how the satellite measured sun power is showing a decrease but the global earth temperature is going UP. showig about a 0.6C rise in this time frame. If the sun is driving global temperatures, shouldn't the global temperature at least sort of follow the the suns power measurement? Turns out the global temperature and the sun have not been tracking for the last 40 years Hmm...

Denial is strong, but the evidence is stronger. I grew up in Europe, parts of which are currently drying up and burning. In some areas, you can cross the rhine river in Germany on foot. Scientists have stated summer temps of 40 Celsius (104 F) will be the norm in summer, as will severe droughts all year, with occasional severe flooding. Shipping traffic is disrupted in many areas because water levels are too low. There are water restrictions in many counties. The change over the past 50 years seems impossible to me, but it is a sad fact.

Germany, Italy, Greece, turkey, France and Spain have forest fires again. Relatives in France were evacuated due to a forest fire a few days ago. Temperatures exceeded worst expectations this summer. Forests are dying, the soil is completely dry, and it is getting more difficult to grow food. When it does rain, it more frequently floods, then it goes back to drought. Weather extremes are everywhere.

Here in TX, we are in another drought which is almost state wide. They are much more frequent and lasting longer. Our streams and rivers are drying up, as are forests, and not enough rain to replenish underground water and aquifers. Some towns are running out of water because wells ran dry.

Friends in other parts of the US are reporting the same. Man-made communities like Las Vegas are going to run out of water. Our relatives there are planning to move, along with many others. We are planning the same in a couple years, but it seems every place is, or will be, affected by increasingly severe extremes. Places which aren’t affected yet will be overrun with climate refugees who will put a huge strain on resources and eventually suffer the same extremes. At some point we will literally have nowhere to run to.

I agree that government leaders don’t appear to want to take meaningful action. The fossil fuel industry (which has been well aware of their contribution to global warming for decades, but deliberately suppressed evidence because $$$$$$) has a stranglehold on the US because so many are dependent on cars, and because they finance politicians from both parties who will make sure to keep the status quo. I don’t know what the solution is, but denial isn’t it.

Another glaring distortion in the video that LOOK4ward posted.

This is a snap shot from the video at 12:10

This is the actual Hadcrut5 global temperature anomaly from here https://crudata.uea.ac.uk/cru/data/temperature/

Hmm... how does the data in that denial video compare to the actual Hadcrut5 data?

From 1880 to 1940, the denial video plot of unknown origin shows about .55C increase. The Hadcrut plot shows about .4C increase. The denial video is only off by 37.5 percent..

From 1940 to 1975, the denial plot shows a decrease of .2C. The Hadcrut plot shows a decrease of .1C. Hmmm.. that is off by 100 percent. 100 percent is "kind of" a big error.

From 1980 to present, the denial video shows about .45C increase. The actual Hadrcut plot shows about .9C. Good grief, the denial video plot is off by 100 percent again.

Maybe Look4ward can find where that global temperature data plot came from and post the reference. Looks to me like someone intentionally distorted reality in order to deceive people.

After this section, the video starts talking about how small of a number the CO2 concentration is.. Good grief.. that is not at all science, but I guess it can deceive the gullible.

FYI, some people remember being told in the 70's that we were possibly heading into an ice age. Well.. that is the time frame before air pollution was significantly cleaned up. The aerosols in air pollution block some of the sun power.

LOOK4ward,

Another thing you apparently got "swindled" on with the video you posted. You said

Quote:
which after a sequence of natural events leads to higher levels of CO2 emitted by the oceans - the lag is around 800 years due to the vast amount of the ocean’s water taking some time to warm up and then it’s release of CO2
Here is another thing for you to explain. If the current high levels of CO2 in the atmosphere came from the oceans, the CO2 concentration in the Ocean should be dropping? Ie, if CO2 is leaving the ocean to go into the atmosphere, the concentration in the ocean should be decreasing.

But.. that is NOT what is happening. Backup link here https://www.climaterealityproject.or...-acidification

Quote:
So, exactly what is ocean acidification?
Our oceans are an incredible carbon sink — they absorb about 25 percent of the carbon dioxide humans produce every year. But this is changing sea surface chemistry dramatically: when carbon dioxide is absorbed by the ocean, it dissolves to form carbonic acid. The result, not surprisingly, is that the ocean becomes more acidic, upsetting the delicate pH balance that millions and millions of organisms rely on.

Since the Industrial Revolution, our seas have become about 30 percent more acidic, a rate not observed in 300 million years. This has a wide range of consequences for marine ecosystems, as well as for the billions of people who depend on the ocean for food and survival.
Another link on ocean acidification below

https://www.ucsusa.org/resources/co2...-acidification

Did the "truth" video you posted explain how the oceans can both become more acidic from absorbing CO2 while at the same time releasing CO2?

More evidence that you were scammed by that video in post 113

We are measuring CO2 increasing in the atmosphere where it acts as an energy trapping green house gas. And.. we are also measuring CO2 concentration increasing in the ocean where its changing the PH. There is only one way to explain that.. an external source. What could that possibly be (if its not already completely obvious to you)?

From this source https://news.climate.columbia.edu/20...lobal-warming/

The red plot is the CO2 in the atmosphere. The blue plot is emissions of CO2. You know.. CO2 comes out of your tailpipe when you drive..

I hate to be the skunk at the garden party but the "denialists" should be posing another question; are India, China et. al. going to shut down their economies just because we decide to commit economic hari-kari? It may feel so virtuous but does it do any good?

Its clear to me that climate change is occurring and a main contributor is our burning of fossil fuel. Its also clear to me that the fossil fuel industry is spending big $$ to deceive people regarding climate change and this effort has been effective.

There will be a cost to do nothing about it. And there will be a cost to do something about it. Alternate energy will never likley be less expensive (in the short time frame) than fossil fuel. We will end up with some sort of compromise. Its global problem and you will never get everyone to participate in something that requires any foresight. We cant even get half the people in our contry to participate in something that requires any foresight. We will just have to adapt and tolerate that.

Its the person who thinks this whole thing is the way for the government to control you or tax you that I find the hardest to tolerate.

What if we do a lot about it, destroy our economy in the process, and let Chinese satraps spoon up the difference?
