Stuttgart, Germany (AHN) - Mercedes Benz manufacturer Daimler will go ahead with earlier plans to produce 10,000 electric-powered vehicles by 2012, according to Thomas Weber, director for research and development at Daimler.

To push through with the environment-friendly venture, Daimler is heavily supporting its research on fuel cells, which would lead to the use of lithium ion batteries on Smart micro cars, Smart two-seaters and Mercedes A series.

Still a crappy car compared to the Chevy Volt that is scheduled to be release in 2010... probably cheaper too.... I think I will pass but at least they are moving in the right direction but then so is pretty much all the other car manufacturers...

The Volt is nice but the price tag isn't. I heard they were releasing the Volt much sooner than they originally thought.

Maybe. I've heard everywhere from 2010 as a 2011 to 2012 as a 2013. Price estimates from 30K and up.

I buy one in a minute if it was affordable and came out soon enough. My Maxima is starting to get expensive to maintain.
