I read this somewhere, but find it hard to imagine
The fans do not turn all that fast
And birds are smart enough to get out the way of oncoming cars
What if they made the turbines out of a softer rubber-like material
That way if a birds slams into one, it will harmlessly bounce off
Spent $50,000 to do a five year study in Iowa~ talked to a guy that was looking for dead birds caused by wind turbines~ after 4years he still had not found any!! But it may happen some day!
I think more birds die from flying into windows on a house than from a wind turbine. I average hearing about 1 bird fly into a window at my house per month, and I'm only actually awake in my house about 4-5 hours a day. Luckily none have died yet, but I know it's coming. Perhaps I should not use windows anymore in order to protect the birds... hm, but that would mean I'd need more artificial light and energy produced by fossil fuels... or wind turbines. I guess it's a no win situation.
I've seen pheasants fly into electrical lines(ie telephone pole lines). I saw 4 this opening weekend(first wk end of nov.) and 3 last yr. Very funny as all get out when a bird gets up, flys 200yrds and dies from hitting an elec. line rather than be shot. We're see'n it happen more and more, thru the yrs.
I'd have to say that if a bird hits a wind generator, ya just hope they haven't reproduced to keep that "trend" going.
If you make them rubber, they may not die from hitting the generator......but the 180-200' drop to the ground may do it, sooner or later anyway.
and are birds really that stupid, I mean do they fly into cliff walls also
Why would they be flying in electric lines?
They are supposed to have the best eye sight on earth, are they not seeing it?
I don't know why. The last few yrs we have seen more than usual, and there is the same amount of electric lines. They are a fair sized bird, fly'n fast.
I know that ostriches shouldn't have square corners for their pens, they need to be rounded or they will run into the fence. They also have good eye sight, but they are stupid.
I thought the problem was with raptor type birds and bats?
