Look for the 6400K ones if you like something that is more like daylight. Unfortunatly if you shoot film (I do, Still and 16mm motion picture) use a FLd filter even with the CFls your pictures will have a greenish tint. If you shoot negative film stock the processing lab can balance the prints to remove the greenish tint. Don't use 6400K CFLs if you want a tungsten look unless you are going to use color correction filters. 4800K or 5400K CFLs are better if you want something closer to the old incandesant bulbs. I haven't seem CFL with the color temprature of kerosene lamps. I have those in every room of my apartment as well.
Do these come as the top setting on a three way by chance? The only time I want it that bright is when I'm reading. Any other time I want less light.

Yes, I like the daylight bulbs.

I'll go snooping again. Where did you buy those?

And thanks....!!

There are 3 way bulbs out there. I bought mine at True Value Hardware in Winsted Connecticut. I am using their W (not sure of th rest of the name, it isn't Westinghouse though.) brand. Inexpensive.

I didn't go with three way as I don't have three way sockets. My fixtures use one way pull chains.

Excellent! I'll be just a few blocks from a True Value tomorrow on my way back from a client. Looks like it's time to stop in and see what's new in lighting.

Appreciate the heads up.

It is possible they don't see so well, or are developing cataracts. You might ask them if they think your house is poorly lit when the drapes are closed. I run around and open and shut window coverings also (in Colorado) when my other family members don't, to save both heat and light.

If it's just the lights, I think the timer works great but only on peripheral lights, not the main ones because it is very annoying to have them go off when you are in the middle of something.
