I've been searching for a place where that actually sells Lithium Ion batteries. I've found manufacturers of them, like Valence, but no one that I could call up, order a bunch and go pick some up (I don't care if they are in another state).

It's for an EV (my old VW) and I want to match up a motor with the batteries I can get. I don't want to go buy a motor and find out I can't get Li-Ion batteries and therefore now need to change the battery locations because of having to use Lead-Acid or NiMH.

Everyone talks about how they are Li-Ion are "more expensive", but I can't find a place to purchase them or even find a price on them. Places like Valence specify: "At present Valence is currently focused on corporate and industrial customers with large format, high volume applications" I, obviously, am not high volume... I'm a one time customer. Anyone know where I can find a distributor for batteries that have a little more power than my cellphone?

I guess one option is to check the price of ordering a "replacement" battery for a Prius or something like that. But I'm guessing those might have more than just 2 wires sticking out with a sign saying "Danger High Voltage: Don't touch these wires at the same time". I believe they have a temperature control computer/sensors and stuff like that connected :-/

Please keep us posted.

Locally here we have a battery store that 're-builds' most batteries. I have spoken with the owner, he follows the industry very closely, and he insists that big bro is really all inside that industry. Controlling who can get what.

Also I would be interested in hearing if you are offered a 'core-charge' or refund for your old Lithium battery.

If I hear anything about a core charge, I'll let you know. But I don't have any Lithium batteries at the moment, so it'll be based on if they put a core-charge on the ones I buy. That is assuming I can even find them for sale.
