A new friend and I are going to be getting together to hike with our dogs on a regular basis and are looking for good trails, ideally ones that allow well behaved off-lead dogs (under voice control).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any idea about Pilot Mountain or Hanging Rock trails in terms of dog friendliness? Any other suggestions?

(I know there are dog parks about, but we are looking for more exercise for both dogs and people and less worry about dealing with ill behaved owners and dogs lol)

Both Pilot Mtn and Hanging Rock are public parks and probably have leash laws. Lots of families with kids visit to walk the trails and picnic. W/S isn't far from the mountains though if you care to venture to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Plenty of areas to walk, explore and enjoy the scenery. Little farther drive though.

If you want to venture about an hour away from Winston Salem give this place a try - it's little used and you might even have the place all to yourself if you go on a weekday!
