Sooo hypothetically speaking, if a girl with some cash to burn, a passion to "live like the locals", and a week in the Piedmont Triad area were to ask you to be a destination guide, where would you send me....er, ahem, her?

What sorts of things do you like to do? There are outdoor activities, restaurants and bars, theatre, symphony, shopping, athletic events, and lots more.

I like all of the above. Going to be down in the triad area for a 1-week swing for business on the company's dollar to wine and dine clients/prospects so anything fun, filled with local flavor, and even pricier is fine.

Cool! Since it's on your company's dime, maybe I could join you for dinner at Ryan's or Noble's Grill. Of course, my wife probably wouldn't like that too much...

Seriously, I'll try to help a bit. I'm much more familiar with Winston-Salem than Greensboro and High Point, so perhaps some others can help you there.

First of all, one of the best sources for "what to do" info is here: Winston Salem, NC Events Guide - City of the Arts, Dining, Entertainment and Community Calendar in Winston Salem, Piedmont Triad, North Carolina There are also restaurant reviews and lots more info about the area.

For restaurants in Winston-Salem, there are some great choices. Downtown has a number of good options, including Hutch & Harris Pub, , Meridian, Noma, Mozelle's, and Rana Loca to name a few. There's also Foothills Brewery, where the beer is better than the food, but it's a decent place to hang out.

Higher end restaurants include Fabian's, Bernardin's, and Christopher's, as well as the aforementioned Ryan's and Noble's Grill.

You can google any of the above for menus, directions, etc.

For restaurants, I like Natty Greene's on Elm Street and Minj up the street has good chicken wings. But I can't really think of anything distinctive to do in the Triad. There's nothing that really separates it from typical mid-size metros.

Really? How about...

--a tour of Old Salem, followed by dinner at the Salem Tavern.
--a day at Tanglewood Park, where you can swim, golf, bike, ride horses, fish, and much more all in the same place.
--a winery tour (West Bend, RayLen, Rag Apple Lassie, and Hanover Park wineries are all less than 30 minutes from Winston-Salem.)
--a hiking trip to Pilot Mountain or Hanging Rock State Park.
--a visit to Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.
--a jazz concert at UNC School of the Arts, or a play at UNC-G, or an art display at Guilford College, or a lecture at HPU.
--a day at Emerald Point water park.
--a tour of the International Civil Rights Museum.
--a visit to the High Point doll museum, one of the largest collections in the Southeast.
--an indie movie at Aperture Theater.
--an ACC football or basketball game at Wake Forest.

I could think of much more, but I don't want to give away all of our secrets. Oh, and I agree about Natty Greene's. Great food, great beer, great atmosphere!
