Tumwater, Wash.-based Gerbing's Heated Clothing plans to return production of its heated clothing, blankets and overhauls from China to a factory it is opening in Stoneville. It says it will employ at least 150 at a former furniture plant in Rockingham County. Owner Jeff Gerbing says production costs have grown in China.
awesome. I work in the industry and there has been some talk lately about China getting pricey and not worth doing smaller production orders. I know my company (not in nc) has begun researching alternatives for garments that we get smaller orders for.
I have been hearing the same with furniture too since they are bulky and heavy the price of shipping is becoming astronomical. I guess there is a good thing out of higher fuel costs.
Textiles is making a slight comeback lately. Nonwovens seems to be taking off alot. European, Israeli, and South American firms are investing in N.C. and S.C.
Companies like Ahlstrom, Spuntech, and Providencia have all invested heavily in an industry that the media and alot of politicians wanted to call "a thing of the past".
