My grandkids love to picnic and swim in the summer, and they love to bring our dog, Sam, along with them. Are there any swimming holes, lakes, rivers, etc where we can swim with Sam ?
We'd drive up to an hour to get to a good place.
Thanks very much !

Unfortunately I can't think of any public places that are close by. There are plenty of private ponds and small lakes, but unfortunately if you don't know someone you'll have to drive a bit. I'd suggest:

Belews Lake
Hanging Rock State Park
High Rock Lake
Uwharrie National Forest
Lake Norman

All are less than an hour from WS.

About an hour north of W-S, a recently restored mill on the Dan River.

Default Thanks so much !

We really appreciate all of the responses.
The state parks usually will not let us swim with our dog, unfortunately.
Bellews, High Rock, and Lake Norman may work if we can find a public access...any suggestions ? Thanks again !

Hi Silverwing ! Have you been to Jessup Mill before ? That sounds really cool. Do you happen to know if little dogs are welcome to swim there ? My grandkids just wont go without him. Thanks

I sometimes go to Belews Lake to train my cattle dog and malinois for dock diving competition. Don't know if there's any swimming for people, but the dogs sure enjoy it!
