Looking for a "larger size" protestant church which is known for strong elementary age children programs and youth programs. Moving to the area with a 9, 6, and 3 year olds. Living in northern gso but will drive for the right church.
We're new to the area, and are going to check out Summit Church in Kernersville (closer to High Point than K-ville if I recall). It's nondenominational; are you looking for a particular denomination?
We're still looking for a church home. Have visited Summit Church; C3 Greensboro; Journey Church of the Triad; a couple of other small churches. We prefer a traditional, Bible-based message but contemporary worship...very lively music, etc. Good youth program for middle/high schoolers is important (preferably, a separate service for youth on Sundays). We prefer a diverse congregation: ideally, diverse in race; age; etc. We're still trying to find a church that most closely matches our church in Greenville NC, which as we have found was a rare mixture of various races, ages, income levels, etc. We're near Wallburg and are open to just about anywhere in the Triad. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Westminster Presbyterian Church on West Friendly Ave (west side) has a strong youth program and a great musical program with two locations (West Friendly and Lake Brandt, which is north of town). Congregation is most white but seeks to be more diverse/inclusive.
Our first impression of Harvest Church (full name, Harvest World Outreach Church) in Greensboro was positive. It is non-denominational and has a diverse congregation. We liked the message at our first visit there this past Sunday.
They have two services on Sundays and a shorter Wednesday evening service. I estimate that there were about 150-200 people there for the later Sunday service, so I'm guessing they get around 300 attendees or so; capacity is around 350 per service. It's large enough to have a decent number of youth (6th to 12th graders have a service together on Wednesdays) for our daughter.
We visited The Bridge in Kernersville, but didn't feel that is the right church for us. It felt like it catered to "new" Christians...not necessarily a bad thing, but not what we're looking for. Huge selection of coffee/smoothie drinks, if that's what you're looking for. lol
Went to Pinedale Christian Church in Winston-Salem this past Sunday. Their second service is more contemporary (we know someone in the band). Music was just what we like, but not as "deep" a worship experience in our opinion. They had a guest speaker that day (who was very good), but just didn't feel like this was the place for our home church.
So we're heading back to C3 Greensboro; haven't been there in several months. It's between C3 and Harvest Church. The pastor at C3 is quite hyper - not necessarily a bad thing. Harvest Church is much more racially diverse than all of the churches we've visited.
I wish more churches had a separate service for youth (middle and high school) on Sundays. Some with two services have a separate service during the first service but not the second. We'll probably always be at the late service, so that doesn't help us.
I am not sure if you have found a church, but the church you are describing that you would like to attend, deep worship, youth program etc. is Winston Salem First Assembly of God. If you live in Walburg, this church is not that far from you. It is located on University Parkway right next to Wake Forest University. You cannot miss it becuase it is a huge Church. 2 services 9:00 am and 11:00. I would recommend the 11 am service as being the best. You can check out the website at www.wsfirst.com God Bless
