Livability.com has ranked Winston-Salem's downtown second in the country. Indianapolis was first in the rankings, which consider a downtown's entertainment options, planning, architecture and green spaces. Among Winston-Salem's attributes was Old Salem.

Never heard of the site, but any recognition like this is great.
Though here's one comment from a reader. lol
"The picture shows Salem Square, not "Community Square", whatever that is. I get the impression that the writer has never actually been to Downtown which lies north of Old Salem. They are two different places entirely."

Number 2 seems to be quite a stretch, but I do like what's happening downtown. When I first moved here almost 20 years ago, there really was no reason to go downtown after 5:00 pm. No restaurants, bars, or anything else to draw people in. Thankfully it's much different now.

Feels more like a small town. How do they define "city"?

Winston is definitely a city with over 229,828 in population.

Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowedIt's called a "Teaser"! (Note the "teaser" qualification on the linked webpage: City: Winston-Salem, NC Teaser). Or whoever ranked W-S's downtown was drugged out-of-his-mind.

I understand their comment though, when WS is not in the top 75 by population in the country. It's honestly one of the reasons we chose WS instead of other places, doesn't feel so much like a big city.

LOL, never quite understood that mentality, the move away forumers who can't quite get enough of a place they dislike? As if where they relocated to doesn't have uhauls with people who hate that place and can't wait to get the hell out of there .
BTW, congrats Winston-Salem, downtown has come a long way baby.
