Officials with Ashley Furniture Industries told area government and business leaders recently that they expect the company’s new 1.1-million-square foot distribution center to be ready in October.
The plant currently is operating at limited capacity in existing structures that once housed an R.J. Reynolds Tobacco production and tobacco storage facility.
About 480,000-square feet is used for distribution and 80,000-square feet is used for manufacturing, mostly upholstery.
The plant has about 300 fulltime workers and plans to hire about 200 more by the end of the year. Those jobs will range from maintenance to supervisors to a plant manager.
