I'm trying to decide on a Grad program and have narrowed my choices down to two and one of them is in Greensboro! I just want some very general information. I headed in that direction in a couple weeks and need some areas to check out to get a feel for the area. Tell me your favorite parts of Winston-Salem and Greensboro. Again, I just want to check out general areas of the cities (art scene, fun shopping, beautiful views, etc...) Thanks in advance!

If you're attending school in Greensboro I would focus there. Winston Salem has some great areas but is kind of a drive on a daily basis. The College Hill neighborhood would be a good place to focus I think. For shopping head up to the Friendly Center which is a very nice outdoor mall on the NW side. The Elm Street corridor in downtown Greensboro is the hub of the art scene with galleries and the Green Hill Center for NC Art. Winston Salem has a nicer traditional mall called Hanes Mall which is just off of I-40. Trade Street in downtown Winston Salem has a larger cluster of galleries than Greensboro and a cool contemporary art museum at Wake Forest University. A 90 minute drive west on US421 gets you to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, go a bit further and check out a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway entering at Sparta, NC and exiting at the NC/VA border to loop back to Greensboro. It's a beautiful and diverse area, you'll find much to do.
