State officials are putting a mega site together to attract an automobile plant. The site is south of Greensboro in Randolph County at the Guilford County line. Greensboro has been asked to run a water line to the site and hwy 421 between the site and Greensboro would be upgraded to interstate standards. SInce this is the site being pushed by the state, any automobile plant considering North Carolina would likely be built here. In addition to having a large site with rail access, the site is not far from Greensboro (about 6 miles) where the Mid-Atlantic air cargo FedEx hub is located at Piedmont Triad Intl Airport.

I would love to see this happen. It does seem that this would be a good area for auto manufacturing, with numerous interstate routes in the area.

I just wouldn't want to be too close to have to deal with traffic, which I wouldn't be in the area proposed.

From the article:
Quote:
State and local officials are well into an aggressive push to turn 2,000 acres here into a “megasite” suitable for such massive operations.

State agencies, railroads and Duke Energy have been meeting to draw up a plan.

That’s evidence that a company may be looking at the site already.

efforts to attract an automaker to the Triad is gaining traction. The site is being called the "Greensboro Liberty Megasite" My guess is that an automaker was or is seriously considering North Carolina which could explain the sudden interest in putting a megasite together for an automaker. Greensboro would run water to the site.
