Hello--I have some friends that are looking at homes in this area, it is zip code 27103. I'm not that familiar with Winston Salem, and wondered if anyone could give me a general idea of this area around Crafton St. in terms of safety, crime, etc.

Thank you for any help!

Why are they moving to WS? What is drawing them to this street in particular?

I think the term is "recovering" or maybe "changing"

Do you know how to google street view (from the map)?

There's definitely a deterioration of streets as they get closer to Peter's Creek. Lockland, Gales, Brent? All pretty good. Sunset starts to get dicey, Corona I don't know much about, but it wouldn't be my first choice, and by the time you get to Crafton/Duke, you're teetering pretty close to the nasty area around Peter's Creek Parkway.

I don't know hard numbers on crime around there. Maybe it's not as bad as it seems. Still, I'd look a couple of streets over. That part of Ardmore is definitely on the upswing, and the adjacent streets are genuinely nice. The apartment complexes are just keeping those streets down a little.

Thanks, Carolina. Yes, my friend had mentioned that there were some apartments nearby that looked ok, but might be a concern. She wants to drive through the area at night to get a better feel.

Yeah, I hate that that one little area is still a little crusty. The nice parts of West End and Ardmore *almost* meet, but not quite.

I really appreciate the info you have given me with the street names included, Carolina. I will pass this info along to she and her husband. Now they can have a better idea of where to look, when viewing the streets on a map.

This helps very much!

Yeah, I rolled down Duke/Crafton on the way home the other day and it's a definite "no". The housing stock is pretty bad on that street. Not a lot to like. However, North of Academy, parallel to Duke/Crafton, almost every other street is pretty nice. Even Corona (at least south of Seneca).
