Hi there,

I know similar threads exist, but they seem to devolve pretty quickly into name calling about whether or not Greensboro is boring. I'm considering a move for a job - I live in a good-sized city in Florida now - and am wondering if anyone can offer insight into Greensboro. I am currently single, but would like to meet someone; I love gastro pubs and local restaurants, farmer's markets, walkable areas with coffee shops and shops, and I'm liberal politically. Does Greensboro have a unique character? What is the surrounding area like? I don't mind slightly "boring," but I definitely like to socialize. I like the idea of living somewhere with great weather, an easy commute and affordable housing, but since I am single and childless, I have some misgivings. Any insight into the town and its neighborhoods would be most appreciated. Thank you so much!

I too live in Florida and am heavily considering a move to the area also, plus have a bit of familiarity from living in the Durham/Chapel Hill area for several years, as well as recent visits to draw upon. Given your criteria you might also consider Winston Salem which in my opinion has a more liberal edge and offers a bit more "character" than Greensboro. Both cities have some nice restaurants, farmers markets and walkable areas. My experience in terms of singles nightlife is that Greensboro seems to skew a bit younger downtown due primarily I think to the fact UNC-Greesnboro is in close proximity with it's 18K-20K students. Downtown Winston Salem seems a good bit more "adult" with a more pronounced 35yo-50yo crowd. I'd recommend taking a look at the Ardmore and West End neighborhoods in Winston Salem, as well as Downtown which has been under revitalization for awhile and has seem cool loft condo rehabs on the market and in process of being developed.

If you're professional, I recommend The bar at the Proximity Hotel on Wednesdays. Otherwise, try Buckhead Saloon. I moved here from NYC for work. I don't get laid as much as I did in The City, but there are still opportunities.
