Hi. We are relocating for a job, and the job is in mount airy. What is the best area to live that is a decent commute and has GREAT schools? Price range for a home $250,000 - $350,000. Thanks

Have you checked out GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community ?
That would help with a school search.

You'll be in a fairly rural area if you don't want a long commute. Your house budget shouldn't be an issue, unless you want something huge.

I live in King, which is a 25 minute drive to Mt Airy. Great schools (I went to them and can vouch), really nice neighborhoods in your price range, and alot of parks/recreation within a short distance. Pilot Mountain State Park, Hanging Rock State Park, Central Park..ect. all within 10 minutes. All essential living needs (grocery stores, banks, food) are right in town as well. Highly recommend for family/kids! For housing, check out Realtor.com and search in King. There are alot of nice houses available right now. (I know because i'm looking too ha) Good luck!

What age are your kids? The best elementary schools in the area are probably in Winston-Salem (on the west/northwest side of town. Some of the better elementary schools are Sherwood Forest, Whitaker, Jefferson, Meadowlark), Lewisville and Clemmons. That's a pretty far hike to Mt. Airy. 45 min- an hour. There are some very good magnet schools in Winston, too.

Closer to Mt. Airy, I've heard good things about Shoals Elem. in Pinnacle (under 20 min. from Mt. Airy) and Vienna Elem. in Pfafftown (35 min from Mt. Airy).
