I agree that in its present state it's nothing worth having a parade over, even if Greensboro gets it. But who knows? There's been some growth in the league and some of the teams have solid followings. I see no reason to poo-poo it.
There is about as much of a reason to poo-poo it as there is to announce it. LOL!

If you're so inclined, I guess. Different strokes. Naysaying isn't really my thing.
But it's worth noting that that it doesn't look like anyone in Greensboro officially announced it, and if anything, coliseum officials seem to be minimizing it. It was the Hornets that announced it.

I wasn't talking about any in Greensboro announcing it - but someone on city-data did. I would imagine that coliseum officials would minimize it - it's not a big deal.
1 million fans in 18 cities...that's awfully low attendance. And it's nothing like minor league baseball that has been in Greensboro for over a century. This would take many years to catch on, and I seriously doubt it will stay around that long.
COLLEGE basketball is very popular. I would be surprised to see 200 people out watching D League basketball.
Your pessimistic view is certainly possible. Its also certainly possible the city will get excited, embrace it, and it will be a success. Haters gotta hate, I guess.
like I said its by no means the NBA but it would still a plus for Greensboro regardless of whether its minor league or not. Will it have as many fans as a grasshoppers game? probably not but that's not the point.

I don't hate Greensboro at all, but I'm not a fan of the D League. It is a LONG way from minor league baseball - which is very popular all over the country. I can't see the city embracing such a thing.

You realize Coliseum director Matt Brown is pushing to market this as a Triad team. It would be based in Greensboro but he wants to spread some home games to Winston-Salem as well. One plus about the D league is TV exposure. ESPN recently signed a contract to air D league games

I didn't say you did hate G'boro...but I'm flummoxed by your negativity over a concept you obviosly know very little about.
It wasn't that long ago that I was sitting in War Memorial Stadium with a few dozen other people watching the Bats. It hasn't always been sweetness and light for baseball in G'boro either. Lots of people said the same things about their new downtown stadium that you're saying about the NBA D League. History teaches us to give things a chance before passing judgement.

I'm sure he does want that, but I seriously doubt it will happen.

I know a good bit about Greensboro and basketball in general, so I'm not sure what you think I know little about. The D League IS NOT minor league baseball. Baseball has been entrenched for years in communities around the country and D League basketball has not and is not popular in the current cities. War Memorial was not a good venue to visit, hence the low attendance. Anyway, these are two very different things - like apples and oranges.
People pass judgments all the time about things that haven't happened yet based on present knowledge and history. Why are you having such a hard time with this? If you think it's going to be a success then fine. I think it will be a miserable failure.
