I haven't been in years but I noticed while looking at the website for the park, that they consider themselves handicap accessible. Now, I realize different organizations mistakenly decide for themselves what constitutes being accessible. That said, some more recent pictures I've seen to show some trails as being paved.
So, in short, has anyone been up there recently and have a good idea on how accessible it is? I have a friend that uses a scooter and wheelchair that I'd love to show the mountain to.
Just to clarify, you are referring to Pilot Mountain State Park? Not the Town of Pilot Mountain? If so, I'd call the rangers office there and ask: (336) 325-2355
I believe there are some areas near the parking area at the top of the mountain that are handicap accessible. The views around the edges of the lot are fairly nice themselves. I think you may even be able to access one or two of the first overlooks in a wheelchair, but I can't be sure off-hand. I do know that most of the longer trails are NOT accessible, including the peak loop. Like carolinadawg said, your best bet is probably to call the park.
