If you was a city board member or as a citizen which is more important, replacing costly aging fleet of buses or drone that supposedly for 911 uses. If you support both or one, how should it be funded?

About half of Greensboro buses are aging with over 500,000 miles with costly repairs.
this example was given to News 2

Take bus 758 for example. This year alone GTA's sunk in almost 27 grand in repairs. On just this one bus.
And across the entire fleet maintenance costs have rolled up from $680,000 in all of 2011 to $849,000 in the first half of 2015 alone.
GTA says their buses are so rundown some days not enough are working to get to all the stops on schedule.

The good news is most of price of a bus is federally funded.
Once our buses hit 500,000 miles - the feds will help the city replace them.
The feds cover 85 percent of the cost of each new bus. Leaving GTA to come up with the rest--- about $45,000.
GTA has 19 buses that need to be replaced. That's almost $900,000 GTA has to find.

I really don't understand the need for drones in a city like Greensboro. And before anyone jumps the gun about me dissing the city - I would say the same about most cities in North Carolina.

Just focusing on Greensboro for the moment - the need for drone technology is not there. It may serve as an added conveniences for dispatchers, and it could conceivably speed of delivery of services - but that doesn't justify the cost for an enhancement not required nor needed.

The aging bus fleet however is certainly a pressing need.

Lol SunnyK! I made a similar observation on FB. With 6 million dollars the city could buy the buses without assistance from the feds.
I didn't read the entire story about the drone but I don't think it's needed. This seems like an unnecessary expense that will fatten a contractor's wallet and leave Gboro holding the bag when the contract is up. No thanks. Replace the buses.

Add to the fact there is news coming out that the president of the drone company may be a little shady. Not sure the city would risk millions on drones. This is absolutely a cool idea for the city but its more of a luxury rather than a need.
