We will be relocating to the Winston-Salem area by fall. One thing our family enjoys most is Irish Music and Dancing. We hope to have our small children involved in Irish Step Dancing in a few years. (Of course if they chose....) Coming from the N East we are surrounded by this culture and Irish Pubs and Sessiuns on every corner. Sounds crazy I know....especially for the South but hoping there might be some hope of fiding something. Atleast once a year.... if only in March maybe???
Here is a link for Irish dance classes offered in WS. I'm sure the instructor could help with your other questions. You won't find Irish music around every corner, that's for sure. Good Luck! and Welcome!
Raleigh isn't too far from WS and they have an awesome Irish pub, Tir Na Nog. You can check out their menu of irish food and their entertainment schedule on their website: tnnirishpub.com. (I don't know if you are familiar with Seven ations, but they are one of my favorite Celtic bands. They usually play Tir Na Nog at least once a year, and sometimes twice).
We were just down in Charlotte for the day and saw an Irish dance group performing at the History Museum. There is always a group performing at the Multi-cultural festival in Lexington (May 1st). You wouldn't think you'd come across Irish dancers everywhere around here, but it is more common than you would think esp. if you go to festivals & visit museums where they often have special performances from different area groups.
