Great! Thank you so much!
Not where I need it to be, but at least it saved me a trip to find out.
I took a ride on it this past weekend, it looks more like an appeasement than an accomplishment. Hwy 220 doesn't look any different than it nearly a year ago and the area around 68 is still a mess. The new surface is a smooth ride.

The US-220 project is waaay behind schedule. The section between the northern end of the newest section of I-73 and NC-68 is being upgraded to interstate standards since I-73 is planned to use US-220 for the remainder of the way to Virginia. It was supposed to have been finished last year, but according to NCDOT's progress report, it's completion date is now January 25, 2018. It's currently listed as being 74.39% complete.

Until being shown the door I used to frequent 220. In the 10 months since it doesn't look like it has been touched. I think behind is an under statement. Even south of the I-73 interchange looks like no progress.

Are there renderings for Interstate 73 from North Carolina Highway 68 to the Virginia state line?

None that I know of. NCDOT has said in the past that I-73 will use US-220 between the recently opened I-73 Connector and Virginia, so it will use an existing highway instead of a new alignment. There are "Future I-73" signs posted along US-220.
This page has good info on the current US-220 project.
All I do know is that part of the new highway runs right past our neighborhood and now we have a lot more traffic noise.
No more quiet time being able to hear the crickets at night.
Your really going to notice it in the Winter and when a tire blows on a semi. It sounds like a shot gun.
You will get use to the hum unless its a loud rig, motorcycle or first responders sirens.
I live by I-85, love the convience of being near a ramp. Yeah the hum gets annoying sometimes and I sleep with a fan on to drown it out.
I ponder how long it going to take developers to mass produce communities along this new stretch.
