Grano salis. A quarter of the ranking weight is based on "happiness index". Another quarter simply on affordability. And coming in at #1, the most awesome place to live in the whole, entire country........Green Bay, Wisconsin. Trailed closely by.......Huntsville, Alabama. Happy in Green Bay? Did they miss the Packers last year?

Raleigh-Durham came in at number #3. LOL I always knew that I was happy. Not Green Bay happy, but happy enough. Boulder isn't too shabby either at Number 4. Great town.

Green Bay is an unorthodox winner on this list, but I think the writeup makes a decent case for the title.

Winston-Salem, where the mood is good and retiree taxes are low, moved inside the magazine's top 25. The Camel City was one of only a few Southeast cities to make the top 25, which was dominated by Northeast metro areas after the magazine tweaked its criteria this year. The changes weren't as kind to the Greensboro/High Point market.

Winston-Salem has for the second consecutive year made Livability's list of the 100 Best Places to Live, an examination of small and midsize communities across the U.S. with populations between 75,000 and 500,000. The online publisher prioritizes affordability as it evaluates about 100 data points across eight categories: economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education and health. The publisher does not include rankings, stating, "Since there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to the perfect place to live, we’ve created a list that is fully interactive, with tools to sort and filter according to the criteria that are most important to you."
