My husband passed away recently. I'm looking to go live near to my son in nc. (I'm in pa now).
Can anyone suggest nice, affordable communities in a very safe area around Winston
Salem, Greensboro or there abouts.
My son lives in Lexington nc and I would like to be within 1/2 hour from him. I would like a house or a town house. No apartments. My price range is 150,000 to 175,000
Winston-Salem and Greensboro are nice, safe communities. I would suggest you go visit your son and have him drive you around to look at the area, focusing on Winston-Salem, Kernersville, northern Davidson County and Lexington. Think about what kind of lifestyle you want and prioritize what is important to you in a new home such as access to shopping, doctors, recreational activities, etc.
Thanks so much BC1960. I certainly plan on doing that. What I was looking for are names of communities in that area so I can look them up on line.
I've did a search but what comes up are zillow, realtor.com etc. I would love to have names of communities hopefully with a website so I can do some investigating prior to my visiting my son. I'm not in any hurry to move. I'm just in the searching phase now.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure what you mean by "communities"? Neighborhoods? Whats your budget? Are you looking to buy or rent? House? Condo? Apartment? In-town? Suburban? Rural?
Generally speaking, the west and northwest parts of W-S and G'boro contain the most desirable neighborhoods.
In my original post I stated my budget is 150,000 to 175,000 to purchase a house or townhouse.
I currently live in a community in Pennsylvania called WLE It is community of homes with an HOA. So I'm guessing there isn't anything similar in this area since youre unfamiliar with what a community is. So I guess you would call it neighborhoods.

Sorry, I missed your price requirement. There are lots of what I would call developments (communities) both with and without HOAs. So many that its hard to recommend specific ones actually. I'd suggest you focus on southern Winston-Salem, northern Davidson County (Welcome, Midway, Wallburg) and Kernersville. Zillow.com or Realtor. com are good sites to identify some communities and houses that may be of interest.

Plenty of HOA developments if that is your thing. I think it's harder nowadays to buy a non-HOA because houses in non-HOA neighborhoods sell so fast. We are wanting non-HOA and finding those houses much in demand.
