Definitelyrics check outhe the rail yard district in greensboro downtown, has fat Tuesdays and the boxcar arcade right across along with a slew of dive bars and random eateries.

It's an awesome spot.

I think Greensboro would be a good choice because it would still give you opportunities to go out to shows or nightlife in Winston-Salem, but also in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) for the evening w/o having to spend the night.

Personally I prefer Winston's downtown to Greensboro's - I think it has a better vibe and is more walkable with a better grid but overall Greensboro has better food and shopping options across the entire city. Just an opinion and I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Hey. IMO I also think Greensboro will provide you with the amenities you are looking for. Especially in the night life department. Buckhead salons. Which sounds country but plays dance music is a popular spot for dancing. Also check out the battleground aka midtown area too for some good restaurants and breweries. Macs speed shop is always packed as well as pig pounders brewery. Winston is nice and those who have read my past reviews know it holds a big spot in my heart. But I feel Winston is def more of a relaxing slower pace to walk the Reynolda gardens or shop at old Salem or go out to dinner downtown at one of their many great restaurants. but if u want night clubs I don't think you'll find them there. I was eating a late dinner at King crab shack one sat night and noticed the downtown area def winds down when the restaurants close.I take it all the wait staff were ready to go out and party them selves and start their wknd and kinda felt they probably all hop in a car and head to Greensboro for their night life.

Ha. They don’t. They just hit up the industry bars. Every town has them.

Thank you guys for all of the recommendations! We are definitely still leaning towards GSO at the moment. And as poppydog mentioned, the triangle is closer as well. The beautiful thing about renting the first year is that if we decide we'd really prefer Winston, then we won't be fully committed . Very excited for the apartment hunting trip this weekend!

Live EAST of the job.
Avoid having to drive facing the sun twice a day on the I-40 commute.

Brian, you've gotten great advice.

One thing I'll add about Greensboro: it's a big town but feels lie a small one. Traffic is only annoying in a couple of places (I40/Wendover-yuk, and Gate City/I40) and you can get from one side of town to another in 15 minutes. Usually!

I can say the apartment search trip this past weekend was a success! Found a very nice place on the west side of Greensboro, somewhat between downtown and the job itself (15 minutes to each). I would've preferred downtown, but the only rentals there that I could find with a private garage were just asking way more than I reasonably wanted to pay. Thanks again everyone - can't wait for the move to be done!

Hi Brian, sorry to be late to the thread, but glad you liked GSO! I've been here 6 years now--I'm 30, married, and no kids either. Great to hear you found a place...and very smart that you've chosen to rent while you get your bearings on the area. Hope you continue to stick around on here after the move--lots of friendly people willing to help.
