Moving to start a new job in downtown Winston-Salem, near 5th and Marshall St. I know little about the area and need suggestions for apartment search.
Mid twenties, male, looking for conveinent, safe neighborhood. $500-$700 per month. Thanks

Look in the Ardmore and West End neighborhoods (Craigslist is probably the best resource, along with Baldwin Properties: Residential Rentals - Baldwin Properties). Also look out around Robinhood and Polo Roads; Sherwood Station Apartments are decent.
Yeah, I agree that your best bet would probably be an apartment in a house or small building in West End or Ardmore. Many of the newer apartment complexes in the downtown area are too expensive for the range you stated, and the more affordable ones aren't as conveniently located.
You might be able to get a unit in Hilltop House for the top of your range. It's located just south of downtown proper about 6 blocks from 5th and Marshall.

Right next to my go-to coffee shop. Good location. Not sure what the apartments are like though.

Does this mean you haven't been to Winston to look for yourself?
How about a google search centered there and asking for apts nearby? LINK
How about asking the HR folks at the job you're coming to town for?
All very helpful replies, thank you.
Think I've found something in the Ardmore area
Looking forward to Winston-Salem!
