New to the area..I've been here almost 30 days... sister is coming to visit... what are the must see or do's in the triad area? In our early 50's. Love crafts, hiking, shopping, antique and junk browsing, great food, Christmas festivities. Thanks for the suggestions

Not all these are pertinent to the current season:

Old Salem
Tanglewood Festival of Lights
Hiking at Hanging Rock State Park (technically not in the Triad I guess, but close enough)
Craftsman's Classic Holiday Market (Gilmore Shows)
Piedmont Craftsman's Craft Fair (Crafts Fair | Piedmont Craftsmen)
Antique/junk stores along S. Elm Street in G'boro
Reynolda House
Art Galleries and stores on Trade Street in downtown Winston-Salem
Ronnie's Country Store in Winston-Salem
Lots of great restaurants in downtown G'boro and W-S
Festival of Lights in G'boro (Festival of Lights)
Salem Christmas Festival in Old Salem (Salem Christmas Festival | Old Salem)
Minor league baseball games in downtown G'boro and W-S
Battle of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in G'boro
Wake Forest Football and basketball games in W-S
Events at both coliseums in G'boro and W-S

I'll answer the hiking part of the question. It all depends on where you are in the Triad and how far you want to drive. We enjoy Hanging Rock State Park, Pilot Mountain State Park, Stone Mountain State Park, and to a lesser extent Morrow Mountain State Park.

Old Salem would be neat this time of the year as well as Tanglewood Festival of Lights.

Is Stokes County not in the Triad? (Hanging Rock reference)

I simply mean its outside the 2 "core" counties of the Triad. Just trying to avoid confusing a newcomer.

The Piedmont Craftsmen's Annual Crafts Fair was held the weekend before Thanksgiving. However, Piedmont Craftsmen operates a full-time gallery in the heart of the Downtown Arts District at the corner of Fifth St and Trade St. The entire Arts District is a great place to explore for art - traditional and unconventional - as well as eat & drink.
