Hi, I am planning to move to Greensboro from Southwest MI before school starts back. I have 2 elementary age kids and 1 infant so I am looking for an area with good schools and daycares. I'm also seeking a 3 bedroom home or town home in a nice area where I can feel safe with my kids going outside to play. My budget for rent is no more than 1000 a month. I would prefer to be close to shopping being that I'm not familiar with the city AT ALL I will be visiting next month sometime to get a feel of the area and see things for myself, so any pointers to where I should be looking would be greatly appreciated
Definitely check out Crowne Gardens. We're renting a renovated 2-BR unit and are very happy. It's both adjacent to and right across the street from a bunch of shops (Target, Lowe's grocery, Marshall's, Aldi, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc.). Crowne Gardens: Stylish Apartments in Greensboro, North Carolina
You may have a pretty hard time finding a (decent) 3-bedroom for 1000 max. 2-bedroom is doable, though; that can still land you in a decent part of town but the apartment may not be as new. I do remember seeing a couple of 2-bedroom townhomes, which looks like what you'd prefer, when we moved here back in October; they were going for about 1000/month at the time.

Thanks, I will definitely look into them. And I'm kind of bummed out because being that I have 3 girls I will need a 3 bedroom because my 2 bedroom now is becoming too cluttered Do you know of any other decent town home communities?

Best I can tell is that 1000/month for 3-BR will put you in a not-so-nice neighborhood around here, but some of the other folks on the board here may have better advice. Unfortunately, I'm not super familiar with townhome rental communities in the area. I do know there are some that are in the same vicinity of where we're at that look really nice, but I think they're only for sale rather than renting. Otherwise, check out 27410 zip code in zillow for rentals (the area with all the shops I referenced in my other post).
Other recommendation I've always seen is Oak Ridge - a little bit further out but might be cheaper. Not familiar with that area personally, though.
You're not going to find many houses to rent in Oak Ridge (if any) and definitely not within that price point. There was a house for rent just outside of the Oak Ridge area (Stokesdale address) that looked to be a really nice neighborhood (we were looking at a house for sale in that neighborhood some time go), but I have no idea if it's still being offered up for rent or not.
As for townhome rentals, you're probably not going to find a 3 bedroom townhome for that monthly price point. I've looked into it, and it's been more like $1,300/month. If you're not looking to sign a long-term lease (as in a year at least), it might even be more than that.
Now, 2 bedroom apartments, you can find those most anywhere within that price point. A lot in very nice, desirable neighborhoods. If you could handle 2 bed rooms for awhile until you were ready to purchase something, that might be the best way to go.
As far as schools, Northern, Northwest, a lot of schools in and around Oak Ridge and Summerfield tend to be the more sought after school districts. Oak Ridge is expensive in terms of homes for sale though (although my home will be offered up for sale in about a month), as well as Summerfield. They're more "rural", country areas, but a lot of very expensive developments are popping up all over the place. The Average price for homes for sale in Oak Ridge, currently, is probably around $350,000.
Maybe check Kenersville as well. Some parts of Kernersville is in the Northwest school district, so you might be able to find some cheaper places around there.
