Yeah, Washington Park isn’t zoned for the best schools. The people I know personally who live in WP either don’t have kids in school or go to private or magnet schools.
WP has some of my favorite residential streets in the city. In the state, even. Beautiful craftsman bungalows and cottages (reminds me of Asheville or Portland) and some truly stately homes (Cascade Ave, for instance). It’s also got some great hip and funky businesses (Slappy’s Chicken ftw!) and fantastic access to parks, greenways, performances at UNCSA, Old Salem, downtown, etc. But you have to go in with the knowledge that there are some rough areas nearby and the schools aren’t the best.
