We are a married couple. early 30s. my husband own his own company. commute not an issue. one child entering 4th grade. looking for a family friendly safe neighborhood with people who look like us for cultural reasons(african american)
we've narrowed down the following zip codes based of demographics.
Please advise as to which is safe(can walk outside at night, car/house not broken into, etc),decent school(doesn't have to be top rated just safe as we enforce a lot of home learning in addition to schooling)
27401
27405
27406
27409
27214
27409
Thank you for any help,tips,suggestions!

Its very hard to make generalized statements about areas as large as zip codes. I'm pretty familiar with 27401 and 27405, and both of them contain safe areas and not so safe areas. You'll probably need to zero in on smaller geographic areas.

thanks for the tip. haven't had any luck on the internet being able to identify specific neighborhoods. most research narrows the city down by zip code. if you are familiar with areas within a zip code that meets my criteria im interested to hear about it!

Of the ones listed.... Cypress Park Rd would be the best choice. I would say no to the others.

I agree that Cypress Park Road is probably the best choice of those. Oxford Street and Hayden Street would be worth exploring further by driving around the neighborhood, talking to residents/neighbors, checking detailed crime stats, sex offender registry, etc.

Like others have said, the Cypress Park choice is probably the best of what you've already identified but there are much better choices in the city. I would recommend the East Lee street area passed the I40 exit near Youngsmill Road. Several subdivisions with homes there ranging from the 150s to 500k+ range. Heavily African American neighborhoods and generally safe.
Grammercy Park
Creekside
Thorpe Square
Trinity Lake
and a few more I'm leaving out.
