If this comes to fruition, it would be excellent indeed for the Triad.
If it does, yes... it'll be a near game changer (especially combined with Toyota).
But while Toyota is highly likely to come to fruition, Boom is highly unlikely to amount to anything. This whole project is pie in the sky.... and ultimately will be plane not in the sky.

A lot of economic news in the Triad. Also there is the Wolfspeed semiconductor announcement for 1,800 jobs at the Chatham County megasite. While its technically in the Triangle (just over the Randolph County line), the closest major city to the site is Greensboro and there is direct access from Greensboro to the site via hwy 421(future I-685) its located not too far from the Greensboro-Randolph megasite.

Well --- Wolfspeed is based in Durham. And, the new plant is closer to Chapel Hill and Pittsboro than Greensboro. And one could argue that Greensboro is not the closest major city to the site. That would be Raleigh / Cary / RTP.
Regardless of which city is closer, it’s only 35 minutes from downtown Greensboro and the fact that Wolfspeed partnering with NCA&T is great for Greensboro.

Agreed.
But Wolfspeed is also "partnering" with NCSU and Durham Tech. They need all of the talent that they can get to support this, and the manufacturing plant expansion in Durham. This is going to be a huge factory. NCA&T will also be a huge contributor to the effort, no doubt. Wolfspeed is a world leader in silicon carbide chip manufacturing. This is huge for North Carolina.

That is simply not true. G'boro is 30 minutes from the site. CH is 45 minutes. Raleigh and Cary are even further. RTP isn't a city. Your comments make no sense.

According to MapQuest, Chapel Hill is roughly 3 miles farther away from the site vs Greensboro, so I was mistaken by originally saying it was closer. It isn't.
Adults talk about distances in "miles" vs. "minutes", and in this case, the road improvements leading to the site will reduce commute times from folks coming from an eastern direction. Makes perfect sense Ed.
The Triangle may have been the selling point for Wolfspeed at the Chatham County site. However, both the Triangle and the Triad will benefit in a big way.

Agree completely.
