So that we're crystal clear, calling out inconsistencies, endless exaggerations, incessant speculation, and pointless BS, is not being nasty, to most people anyway.
If someone is going to post in a public forum such as this, then they should be prepared for criticism. That applies to me, you, and everyone.
As the old saying goes, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
This is not a kitchen, NONE of us are cooking anything. We're all fans and voyeurs watching from the sidelines of an online forum. The mere fact that we're here, is proof we're not there. So let's just have fun with this "hobby" of ours and accept the occasional criticism from our fellow armchair quarterbacks ....while rejecting it as our (your) norm. Most of us are well-traveled professionals and can identify with the poster from Charlotte who so accurately said ....you've somehow convinced yourself that Raleigh is a global mecca, when in fact ...it isn't. That's implied hyperbole.

Sounds like Greensboro got the Supersonic Jet Maker. There will be a press conference announcement at Piedmont Triad International Airport next Wednesday.
"State officials are planning a major economic development announcement for Wednesday at Piedmont Triad International Airport to announce to welcome a new airplane manufacturer that has been called “Project Thunderbird"

"That package specifies at least 500 new jobs that would pay an average of $60,000 a year. Other estimates have suggested more than 1,700 could be hired by the manufacturer."
Obviously we'll know more on Wednesday, but $100 million in incentives for potentially just a few hundred jobs seems like a terrible investment... especially for a company with such risk. Is it wrong for this to make me a touch nervous?

I would assume the $100 million amount is the maximum amount, based on the creation of 1,700 jobs. Fewer jobs will mean a smaller incentive.

Yeah, being that this is a startup with no track record and having many obstacles to achieving its stated goals, it is a bit risky. Normally the incentives are paid out over time, to well established companies with proven track records, but in this case, a lot of the money will be spent up front to build hangars and to make other physical improvements.

But when risky projects like this succeed it means great rewards for Greensboro and the Triad area.
To be honest, I'm not so sure in this case. Basically we're giving this company incentives as if they're Boeing, Airbus, or Northrup Grumman. In truth, they're a speculative startup that could take $100 million, build the plant, and then run out of cash and go bankrupt (there's a strong chance of this scenario playing out IMO).
Basically, there's a TON of risk here, but no greater reward than any other major (established) company coming in. It's not like if this plant goes well that the company is going to shift HQ to Greensboro and bring hundreds of six-figure jobs. Basically, it's 1700 or so moderate-paying jobs for a very high cost of incentives.... no different than Toyota but least with Toyota we can feel pretty confident that the battery plant will get off the ground... potentially leading to more later.
