The City of High Point has now reach a milestone. The city now has over 100,000 residents making Guilford County the second county in North Carolina that has two cities with over 100,000 people. Greensboro is the county seat of Guilford County and it has 255,000 residents. Wake was the first county in NC to have two cities with over 100,000 people. Raleigh and Cary both have over 100,000 people.
High Point is definatly more than a "suburb" of Greensboro. It is its own city and city leaders there are starting to think big. The core downtown revitalization plan for High Point includes a hotel/convention center to help benefit the furniture market as well as a downtown arena. The city is the "Home Furnishings Capital of the World" or "Furniture Capital of the World". The world's largest home furnishings market is held in High Point twice a year and more than 85,000 people from around the world attend both events. Martha Stewart and other TV personalities usually attend. Downtown High Point has over 12 million square feet of showspace with more than 2,000 exhibitors during the market and 110 countries are represented.
High Point is also hometown to American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino. BTW American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry is from a nearby bedroom community outside of Greensboro. Greensboro and High Point have pretty much grown together. You can leave Greensboro and you are immediately in High Point.
officially High Point has 100,342 residents. By comparison, Wilmington has 100,903 residents. Greensboro and High Point's combined population is around 356,000.

A big contributing factor is that all the new residents are not moving to the Guilford County side of High Point but are also located on the annexed part of the city in Davidson County for it cheaper taxes and great schools in Northern Davidson County
Awesome pictures as usual, G! keep them coming! I love the architecture of the Showplace Convention Center. What we need is more appealing, beautiful architecture. Fountains, strolling places, beauty. Heck, people certainly don't go to France for the people!! LOL

I agree. Even the roundabout at Greene Street and McGee Street in downtown Greensboro should have included a water fountain along with the General Greene Statue. It just looks like water should be flowing there.

Perhaps we can make a formal recommendation for that - who would we need to speak to about it?

by emailing the city council and mayor would be a start. Also email the idea to Downtown Greensboro Inc. It would be great to see a water fountain there.
